How to Grow Your Twitter Account

In late March of 2022, I started a Twitter account that was primarily based around NBA basketball content. Today, in mid-June, I have amassed over 3,000 followers. I am still gaining roughly 55 new followers per day. So, how was it accomplished?

Step 1 — Creating Your Account

What is something specific that you are interested in? For me, it was the NBA’s Denver Nuggets. Come up with a creative name and bio for people to know what you are planning on talking about. A catchy profile picture is key! For me, it was a colorful graphic with one of my favorite Nuggets players.

Step 2 — Getting Started

Have you been on Twitter before with a different account? Follow the popular accounts you like! In the NBA world, this might be a couple players, teams, or large sports news accounts. Once you follow these accounts that share your common interest, see who is commenting below. These accounts are essentially just like yours. Follow a few of them, like tweets that you think are funny, interesting, or informative. I would follow 50+ accounts in your first day.

Step 3 — Content

  • When it comes to content, make sure you produce a lot! Twitter is fast paced and studies have shown 12–15 tweets per day at least is the way to go.
  • Pictures are everything! Include pictures with every tweet that you can. Some plain messages do not get as many interactions.
