The NBA’s Top 10 Most Underrated Players 2022

Each year in the NBA there are breakout performances by unpredictable players. This year (2021–2022) in the NBA, there are plenty of players that will be stars in the years to come.

  1. Saddiq Bey
Saddiq Bey — Detroit Pistons

Saddiq dropped 51 points, including 10 threes against the Orlando Magic on March 17, 2022. Saddiq is an amazing shooter, with multiple 5+ 3PM games, and that is not his only method of scoring. He is only 22 years old and in just his second season in the NBA. The Detroit Pistons are in rebuild mode but Saddiq Bey’s upside has crazy potential.

2. Desmond Bane

Desmond Bane — Memphis Grizzlies

Desmond Bane has doubled is season average for points from 9.2 PPG in the 2020–21 NBA season to 17.9 PPG in the 2021-2022 season. Interestingly, in the betting world, Bane’s 3PM per game is usually set at over or under 3.5, which shows his 3 point shooting consistency. The Memphis Grizzlies are #2 in the Western Conference and Bane is the second leading scorer for the team.

3. Gary Trent Jr.

Gary Trent Jr. — Toronto Raptors

Gary Trent Jr. has become one of the most dangerous shooters in the NBA during his time on the Toronto Raptors. Trent has two 40 point games this season, including a ton of 30 point games and it is not uncommon for him to hit 4 or 5 threes in a game. If Trent can become more consistent, he will be an All-Star very soon. Gary Trent Jr. is only 23.

4. Anfernee Simons

Anfernee Simons — Portland Trail Blazers

The extended absence of Damian Lillard and the departure of CJ McCollum has lead to a disappointing season for the Portland Trail Blazers. However, Anfernee Simons has emerged as a professional scorer at the NBA level. Simons has several 30 point games (1 40 point game) this season and averages 3.1 threes made per game, including 18 games with 5 or more threes. Simons is only 22.

5. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander — Oklahoma City Thunder

Over the last few years, SGA has made a name for himself in the NBA, but the Thunder have not been great. Shai is a gifted scorer and has gotten better every year, nearly averaging 25 PPG this year, with 20 30+ point games. Don’t be surprised to see this young OKC Thunder squad start piling some wins together next season, or Shai joining another team and becoming an NBA All-Star.

6. Darius Garland

Darius Garland — Cleveland Cavaliers

Why is Cleveland so good out of nowhere this year? Darius Garland has the answers. Perhaps one of the shiftiest players in the league, Garland is a threat to put up 15 assists or 30 points in any given game. He was named to his first All Star Game this season. Darius Garland’s consistency and playmaking, paired with Jarett Allen and Evan Mobley are going to result in a deep playoff run for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

7. Dejounte Murray

Dejounte Murray — San Antonio Spurs

Dejounte is another one of those players that has better numbers every year. He averages over 20 PPG this year on the Spurs, which has increased by about 5 PPG the last two seasons. He has recently become a triple-double threat any night, with 12 triple doubles this year already. His athleticism and decision-making place him over other NBA guards. Murray recently made his first NBA All-Star game.

8. Spencer Dinwiddie

Spencer Dinwiddie — Dallas Mavericks

After getting traded around a few times the past few seasons, Dinwiddie found his home alongside Luka Doncic in Dallas where he has multiple clutch shots this season. Dinwiddie is an isolation specialist. He doesn’t have the eye-popping stats, but his reliability, consistency, and playmaking skills are why the Dallas Mavericks are happy to have him.

9. Christian Wood

Christian Wood — Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets are not great, but they have young players on their team that are pure hoopers, like Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. Wood is currently 12th in the league in rebounds per game, and also averages 18.2 PPG. Christian Wood is very consistent and he is becoming one of the best bigs in the league. It seems like every game he gets 20+ points and 10+ boards.

10. RJ Barrett

RJ Barrett — New York Knicks

RJ is still so young (21 years old), but he has started to get a much better feel for his game and his confidence is through the roof. RJ Barrett has become a lethal NBA scorer. He scored a career-high 46 on February 25, 2022. The Knicks are a solid team when RJ and Julius Randle are each scoring 20+ points. The upside of RJ Barrett is very high.
